Tata-Marcopolo shows green signal for Dharwad bus plant

Finally TATA's have shown green signal for their new world's biggest bus plant. The bus manufacturing facility of Tata Marcopolo Motors Ltd. at Dharwad in Karnataka has begun commercial production from Feb-2009.
The Dharwad plant will cater to India’s growing demand for world class fully-built buses for intra-city and inter-city transportation with international standard comfort, quality and safety. It will produce a comprehensive range of buses to be marketed under the ‘Starbus’ and ‘Globus’ brands, including 16 to 54-seater standard buses, 18 and 45-seater luxury buses, luxury coaches and low-floor city buses.Spread over about 123 acres, the plant will have a capacity to produce 30,000 units a year, to be achieved in phases. In 2009-10, the first full year of operation, production can be up to 15,000 units. The joint venture has already invested about Rs. 200 crores. The plant, at full capacity, will generate over 6,500 direct jobs. It will be supported by a vendor park. Karnataka people are really thankful for TATA's drive and provide job opportunities.
In May 2006, Tata Motors and Marcopolo of Brazil announced a joint venture company in India to manufacture and assemble fully-built buses and coaches. The joint venture, in which Tata Motors will hold 51 per cent of the equity and Marcopolo will hold 49 per cent, initially set up a manufacturing facility in Lucknow from where the DTC low-floor city bus order was executed.
The joint venture is good combination with Tata Motors providing technology and expertise in chassis and aggregates, and Marcopolo providing the expertise and know-how in processes and systems for bodybuilding and bus body design. The buses built so far conform to international standards in quality and safety, and the plan is to market the products not only in India but also in all Tata Motors focused markets globally.
As we all know the Tata Marcopolo is proved for its cost effectiveness in city transport. With its special features it has already caught attention of many people. The success of Tata Marcopolo bus in Mumbai BRTS and Delhi has made Tata to bag more orders. I heard even BMTC- Bangalore has also recived positive responce for Tata- Marcopolo from people. I got some information that BMTC officials has received some request letters from public to add some more Tata-Marcopolo buses.
By this details its comfirm that Dharwad plant will run succesfully and make those Tata horses to run faster and safer.
Thanking again to Tata- Marcopolo for this great drive of providing luxury and comfort transport solution and to provide good Job opportunities.

Tata Motors to roll out vestibule buses soon

A new gift from TATA motors for Indian public transport. Now say good bye to those low power roaring Ashok leyland vestibule bus.
Tata Motors is planning to come out with vestibule buses from its joint venture with Marcopolo of Brazil. The company is in talks with Hubner, the German supplier for articulated systems, critical for the manufacture of vestibule buses.
Tata Motors is expected to finalise its deal with Hubner at the meeting between the top executives of the two companies. The buses will roll out from the Tata Marcopolo Motors (TMML) bus plant at Dharwad, Karnataka.
These 18-metre long buses with larger seating capacity are fitted with an extra axle and a joint usually located slightly behind the midpoint of the bus, behind the second axle. Also called articulated buses, these 180-seaters are ideal for city transport.
The use of vestibule buses is in its nascent stage in India. Ashok Leyland is the only manufacturer, which meets the needs of the market in limited numbers. According to industry estimates, there are nearly 400 vestibule buses in India across Chennai, Bangalore and Belgaum.
Hubner, which has an 80 per cent share of the global articulation system business, supplies these systems to Ashok Leyland, and is in talks with several Indian bus body builders and manufacturers, including Tata Motors.
These supplies will be made from its manufacturing facility in Shanghai under its Chinese arm umbrella.
“When we have enough volumes, we will set up a facility in India,” Robert Koch, Director of Articulation & Folding Bellows Division, Hubner, told Business Line.
According to Makrand Shahane, India representative of Hubner, the domestic market has the potential to sell 1,000-1,500 vestibule buses a year.
Between Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland, the company has targeted sales of 150 articulation systems this calendar year.
Its global sales totalled nearly 6,500 articulation systems to the likes of Daimler AG, Scania, Volvo and Marcopolo.
China produced 1,800 articulated buses in 2008, thanks to the increased demand for public transport during the recently held Beijing Olympics.
Brazil produced more than 400, while Europe accounted for around 5,000 articulated buses last year.
Now Tata plus Marcopolo. Quality product for mass public transport.
